We are organising an 'Afternoon Tea' on New Year’s Day from 2 – 4.30pm to be held at Scartho, although we hope that all Grimsby and surrounding churches will join us in the organising, and also on the day. On New Year’s Day we will need helpers for the tea, games/activities, chatting with our visitors and perhaps entertainment. There will be a planning meeting at Scartho on Saturday 23rd November at 2.30pm in our front hall.

Please consider helping with organising this event, even if you can’t come on the day.

We will be decorating the church on Saturday 30th November from 10am. Please could anyone able and willing to offer help please come. It would be much appreciated.  Thanks, Janet.

Many of you will remember that in recent years we have knitted or crocheted angels.  We have then surprised the public by leaving them all over the village (in the early hours), a few days before Christmas.  The tag on them invites the finder to take them home as a gift from

the Church. Please help us to do this again!  We have patterns and wool available – on a table in the front hall, and even the stuffing too.  Help yourself.  Thank you.

I will shortly be writing next year’s rota for the Welcome Stewards who greet us on the door week by week.  If you would like to take a turn on this rota, please contact me by Sunday 24th November.  If any of those presently on the rota wish to come off, then please also let me know. Thank you, Heather Corry.

We continue to offer free coffee to our community on Saturday mornings from 10 – 11.30am.  Many thanks go to the people who take a turn on this rota. I will shortly be making the rota for next year and so if anyone else would like to offer to help in this work I would be delighted to hear from you!  At the moment it works out at every 5 or 6 weeks.

Thank you in anticipation, Heather Corry.

If anyone would like to help with the coffee on Sundays, in a group of 3 or 4, please let me know and I will help put you into a group.  I will be making the new rota shortly after 24th November and would be pleased to hear from anyone.  Would present helpers please let me know if you wish to come off the rota.  Thank you, Heather Corry.

We are recruiting for Sunday Club Teachers and helpers.  If anyone else would like to offer to help with Sunday Club on a rota basis, please contact Karen Baldock or Heather Corry who can give you the necessary information.  Thank you.

This year, a report was brought to Methodist Conference entitled 'God In Love Unites Us'. The report discusses a number of issues around marriage and relationships and what the Methodist Church’s position should be on these issues.  Next year, a vote will be taken at District Synods before the report is brought back to Conference.  As such, the District is holding a number of consultations so that all members of the District have the opportunity to hear the views of others and express their own. Further details are available on the additional sheet.  In the meantime, we encourage you all to read the report for yourselves.  There are resources available to help with this which come from different viewpoints, but it is important to read the actual report first and not rely only on these to inform your views.  If you require a paper copy of the report, please ask a member of the Leadership team, otherwise it is available on the Methodist Church website https://www.methodist.org.uk.

At the meeting on 24th October it was decided that on 1st January 2020 we would officially launch the 'Talk Together Project' by holding Afternoon Tea events around the Circuit at: Immingham, Scartho, St. Andrew's and North Thoresby

We see 'Afternoon Tea' as being sandwiches, cake and a drink.

These events will be aimed at those who are lonely or on their own on that day and will be from 2 – 4.30pm at each of these venues.

We need lots of people to help in various ways and if you want to get involved in any way at all – baking cakes, serving tea, providing entertainment, talking to people etc etc please get in touch with one of the following people who will be responsible for co-ordinating what happens (but not doing everything themselves).  If your church is not one of the 'hosts' on this occasion, please take the opportunity to help one of the 'host' churches.

Immingham – Ann Conn, Tel: 01469 517611 or 07774966029

Scartho – Heather Corry, Tel: 01472 872658 or 07950538362

St. Andrews – Patricia Backhouse, Tel: 07904040005

North Thoresby – Kathy Hart, Tel: 01507 363626 or 07484323523

or Maureen Cardy, Tel: 01472 840915

The events will be at the same time on the same date, but this does not necessarily mean that they will be identical.  Those involved at each venue will decide the 'nitty gritty' details – please feel free to be creative. We will soon be sending out posters about the event to churches and will also be providing a 'template' invitation to give to those who may come.

Please consider carefully and prayerfully how you can be involved in this venture and encourage your fellow church members to get involved too.

Every blessing to you all, Susan.

• If you are new to our church, please make yourself known to the door stewards or fill in one of the cards at the back of church.

• All our song words are projected but copies of the books are available on the racks under the chairs. If you need large print copies, these are available at the back of church.

• Children are very welcome to stay in the service or to make use of our crèche (for babies and toddlers) or Sunday club (for school aged children). They will be taken through to the hall after approximately 15 minutes of the service. Please speak to a door steward for more details.

• Our morning services are usually recorded. If you wish to listen to a previous service, please ask at the sound desk at the back of the church.

• There are copies of previous notice sheets available at the back of church.

• If at any time you have any questions about what you have seen, heard or experienced during a service, any general questions about church life or if you wish someone to pray with you, or for you, please make yourself known to one of the stewards or door stewards who will guide you to the right person. Alternatively, following the service, please make your way to the front row where someone from our prayer team will come and talk to you.
