Book Club
The Books for Book Club over the next few months are: -
You Are Here by David Nicholls
The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams
.
The Silence In Between by Josie Ferguson
We are a very easy going, non-high brow, friendly, chatty cake eating group.
If you’d like to join us (even just for a specific book) or would like to know more,
speak to Cathy Twomey or Kate Melling.
MONTHLY PRAYER DAY
Just to remind you that Tuesday 13th August, is the church's 'Pray at Home Day.'
We are being encouraged to be united as a church family, to pray together.
The set prayer times to join together are between 10 – 11am, 1 – 2pm
or from 7 – 8pm.
If these times are not convenient for you, you can join in with prayer any time
on that day.
Starting with the Lord's Prayer then perhaps use the following:
Heavenly Father,
We come together as your children in thanksgiving.
You, indeed are worthy of all our praise and worship, knowing that you love to hear us as your children bring our prayers and petitions to you.
We pray for peace in the situations we have been witnessing, like the devastating news of the young girls and two adults being stabbed, with three of those sadly dying from their injuries.
The terrible riots and looting leaving one at a loss of words, for all the communities affected.
The war continues in the Ukraine with the invasion of Russia. We pray that the rebuilding can start.
The conflict between Gaza and Israel with the possibility of escalating to war in the surrounding countries, that respect and understanding may be built to make a secure future.
Continuing to remember, those who are still suffering with their financial problems, meaning that families need food banks, for those struggling with addictions, with mental health issues, those with long term health problems, their Carers, and the lonely, please help us to show your love wherever we can.
We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus our Lord and Saviour.
Amen.

THE 'STAY AND PLAY' AFTERNOONS
On Tuesday afternoons throughout the summer holidays, we will be holding our Crafternoon (to be renamed The 'Stay and Play' to reflect the variety of activities). This is a big event in the village and one that we have put on for the past two summers. It needs loads of people to help it run properly and I need as many volunteers as possible for the following jobs:
Chatting/meet & greet, tea, coffee, biscuits, juice (both putting a rota together and being on the rota to make the drinks), outdoor games (games provided but feel free to bring others), craft activities (supervising a prepared activity), craft activities (bringing and supervising a craft activity), toddler toys & games, setting up/putting away (If you are able to do this but not be there for the whole afternoon) and anything else you’d like to suggest that you think would be a good idea
The dates we would like to run are: 13.8.24, 20.8.24 & 27.8.24
As always, please ask if you have any questions or you are unsure, Kate.
Tel: 07908 938994 or E-mail: katemelling@yahoo.com.
SERVICE
Just to let you know that I will be going in to Old Norse Lodge Care Home, Scartho Top, to take a service on Monday 19thAugust, at 2.30pm.
If anyone would like to join me they will be very welcome.
Susan.
HOUSEGROUPS
We have been reviewing our Church housegroups and are aware that some people are not included – and wondered if they would like to be?
You will see from the list in the notices each week that we currently have 4 day-time meetings and 2 evening meetings.
We are looking at starting another evening meeting if anyone would like one?
Please speak to one of the Leadership Team if you would be interested in a new evening meeting, or even if you would like to join an existing one.
Most groups will be taking a break during August but will be starting again in September probably with new study materials.
Please can you help?
We need a towel washer!
Please could you wash the church towels, or perhaps take a turn in washing them with others? We don't use a lot!
If you might be able to help (with or without others) please speak to Heather
who can give you more details. Thank you.
